Born and raised in New England. Moved to New Orleans in 2010. Began working as a full-time, freelance writer in 2013.

My first focus, as a writer, was beer. Living in an area that was working hard to catch up to the country’s microbrew/craft beer/local brewery scene, my original focus was spreading the word about beer and brewing news and events in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Gulf Coast. As the culture grew, so did my workload. I began writing beer stories from around the country, looking at national issues and trends as a whole.

As a freelance writer in one of the finest food cities in the world, the restaurant and food writing biz soon called to me, and eating out locally was certainly something I had plenty of experience with. New Orleans has many champions of its food culture, so it didn’t need the support as much as the beer world did, but I found I love telling the stories of people who create what we eat.

Once I started writing about beer and food, the spirit and cocktail world was a natural progression for my focus. It added a new level of flavor and service complexity, and again, the people who work in the industry are colorful and engaging, and writing about those journeys is highly satisfying.

My work with beer, food, and cocktails had taken me to many different locales in the U.S. and I enjoyed comparing the different markets and offerings. Taking baby steps in the large world of travel and exploration has become one of my greatest joys and inspirations. I’ve worked with travel and tourism publications writing about New Orleans and Louisiana, and now I want to bring my perspective to other cities and regions, not just in the U.S., but around the globe.

Since my work is tied to personally pleasurable subjects, my personal life outside of that is pretty mild. I lived in the Boston area for 15 years and in Salem MA for 5 years before moving here to New Orleans. Why did I move? Honestly, I have no idea. It was a spur of the moment decision that felt right and I’ve never regretted it.

I have the amazing support of my husband and partner, Tom. He’s my motivator, my cheerleader, and the grumpiest draft editor/proofreader ever. I work from home with two feline colleagues, Marley (a giant ginger boy) and Sadie (a calico princess and miniature Maine Coon, which I don’t know if that’s a thing, but it’s the only way to describe her.)

The rest of my family (my parents and my sister’s family of five) live in Columbus, OH which one could say is the opposite of New Orleans in practically every way.

During the times I’m not writing about or partaking in beer, food, spirits, and travel, my interests include: napping, watching TV comedies (Good Place, Brooklyn Nine Nine, and Bob’s Burgers are my current obsessions), attending Marvel superhero movies, and cooking (these days, most frequently in my Instant Pot.) In theory, I love yoga and bellydancing. In practice, lol. I graduated from college with a Theater Arts degree and am trying to get back into going to the theater on a regular basis, that’s been fun.
